WELCOME TO SOUTH PIER

INTRODUCTION
Established in 1926, South Pier has served three generations of boat owners
and enthusiasts and over the years has built up an enviable reputation for the
highest standards of quality and customer services
Founded originally by Bill Kent with open yards and lean to work shops , the
business expanded progressively.
Brother in-law Bill Coom took the helm after the second world war and
with the acquisition of more covered yard space, he remained with the business
until his death in in 1989 at which time sons David and Gordon, along with
partner Gerald Badains, took over. At about this time, the third generation
William Coom, who now manages the chandlery, joined the firm.
A once in a lifetime opportunity presented itself when brothers David and
Gordon decided to sell South Pier Shipyard and retire in 1998. The
business was bought by a consortium consisting of Paul Battrick, who has 20 years
of varied boating experience, Brian Tanguy, John Sawyer and Jonathon
Segal. The latter three members of the team had a long involvement in public
transport and hotels. They were recreational boaters and had always been
keen to become involved in the boating scene.
South Pier Shipyard is probably the most successful boatyard/chandler in the
Channel Islands and it was an enthusiastic quartet that set about trying to
improve what was already a very popular facility.
